Update – Sujith passed away inside the borewell, body recovered and sent for postmortem
Surjith rescue operation is still in progress and the drilling process is slow as the entire area is filled with rocks, hence the drilling teeth gets blunt and broken for every few ft of drilling. Drilling was started at 7am and it was expected to be com pleted within few hours but the process is still continuing with only 35ft drilled down as the entire ground is filled with rocks beneath few ft.
Update 28th October 9:30 Am – Drilling machine struggling to drill through tough rocks, Sujith Life status is not known
Now a new rig vehicle has arrived from L & T which is three times powerful than the existing vehicle and it has took them almost 16 hours to reach this spot from Ramanathapuram as moving the vehicle is very difficult and it can only move at a speed of 30 to 40km per hour. But perfomance wise it will be three times faster than the existing one and hence the process of drilling will be completed in the next few hours using the new vehicle.
Once the drilling process is completed it will take only half an hour to establish the path for rescuing Surjith from the adjacent bore by drilling a slanting hole and applying steel doors to make sure there wont be any more mud slides. Six commandos are waiting to perform the task as described earlier and three of them will get into the tunnel one by one and they will start the rescue operations.
It was confirmed at 10:50 am on 27th October 2019 that Surjith is still alive from Thermal readings and doctors are closely monitoring his status and health condition. Stay tuned for more updates.
