Eid-Al-Adha (termed as “Bakrid”) is the second of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated every year.
Why is Eid-Al-Adha Celebrated?
Eid-Al-Adha is celebrated in honor of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Before Ibrahim sacrificed his son, God gave him a lamb to be sacrificed instead of this son. Henceforth, a lamb is sacrificed in three parts during this festival, out of which one is for the family, one is given to the poor and the other one is for near and dear ones.
When is Eid-Al-Adha 2019?
In the year of 2019, Eid-Al-Adha will be celebrated on August 12. Prayers in mosques and peak crowds at Mecca is a common sight during this festival.
