It has been a fascinating start to IPL 2019 for the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the rebranded Delhi Capitals (DC). CSK lived upto their expectations as the most consistent team in the IPL with a crushing win at home over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi Capitals looked rock solid against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede under the able leadership of Ricky Ponting.
A confident Delhi Franchise at Display
Delhi Capitals looked confident and focussed with a new team, management and strategy. Rishabh Pant made a crackling 78 off just 27 balls which stunned the star studded Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. Shikhar Dhawan’s first game for DC went well and he will look forward to improving DC’s miserable average opening score in IPL with Privthi Shaw’s support.
Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma looked impressive with the ball for DC, a franchise which has been struggling with its bowling lineup.
Chennai Super Kings – Will Dream Run Continue?
Chennai Super Kings have a lot of expectations riding on their shoulders after a dream comeback to IPL in 2018. Dhoni’s midas touch has not deteriorated and the core team looks solid. CSK will look at experimenting with their strong overseas bench strength comprising of Sam Billings and Faf Du Plessis. Considering the meager total to be chased, the batting wasn’t tested much for CSK. However, the bowling unit looked top notch (ofcourse the pitch had a say in it) with Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir and the newcomer to CSK – Harbhajan Singh performing at their peak. Suresh Raina looks in good knick and he becomes the first player to cross 5000 runs in IPL.
Pitch Analysis and Statistics
Feroz Shah Kotla will be a slow wicket and a paradise for spinners. We expect the bowlers to have a bigger say in deciding the course of this game as the pitch wears down with time.
