CoronaVirus is ripping apart the economy and normal livelihood of millions across the globe. Hugely populous India is beginning to face the brunt of Level 2 and 3 transmission of the virus in the country. There has been a significant surge in the total count which mounts to 3054, including 84 deaths. The major regions affected are Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR Region and Rajasthan.
As the results of the lockdown began to show, the spread of coronavirus cases was clamped to a considerably manageable number with no major community spread. Most of the new cases were with known travel history or contacts of already positive patients.
However, the spurt in the number of cases converting from the Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi is sending jitters across the country. Tamil Nadu has seen the biggest increase of more than 280 cases in three days from patients who visited the event which was an illegally conducted event.
While the nation anxiously waited for PM Modi’s speech at 9AM, his advice to light lamps and torch lights at 9PM on Sunday night seems to have rubbed the wrong shoulders of leftists and atheists. Makkal Neethi Mayyam leader and popular actor of Tamil cinema, Kamal Hassan tweeted immediately after PM Modi’s 9 minute speech. Kamal Hassan said, “I also looked forward to the Prime Minister speaking. The solution to the shortage of safeguards, the scarce supply of essential goods, the livelihood of the poor, the future economic activity, but to the torch that we have somehow reached today”.
However, Gayathri Raghuram countered Kamal Hassan’s claims which alleged inadequacies in government actions. Gayathri Raghuram, quoted, “Kamal sir government is doing their job just fine. Did you expect sudden hike of covid 19 cases because of #TabhleegiJamaat? Did you speak about the violent spitting on police? Let government do the job let’s not dictate them what to do. Absolutely clueless. Show unity positivity”.
