The Athi Varadhar festival enters the final week of darshan and the crowd has significantly risen in the last few days. We at TheNewsCrunch are committed to provide accurate and relatable information with regard to the experience and crowd status at stake for the next few days.



Today is the 13th of August 2019, Tuesday and it is expected that the crowd will be lesser (as compared to Saturday & Sunday) because today is a weekday. However, in comparison to the crowd levels last Tuesday, the waiting will be higher owing to the last week rush. The details mentioned below is the expected waiting time for darshan and the crowd status at Athi Varadar for today.

Early Morning Free Darshan – Approx 4.5 hours

Dharma Darshan / Free Darshan – 5 hours to 6 hours

Rs 300 Special Darshan – 2.5 to 3 hours, West Gopuram Gate

Rs 500 Special Darshan – 2 hour wait time approx, West Gopuram Gate

Senior Citizen Queue – 3.5 hours approx wait time, East Gopuram Gate

Parents with Infants Queue – 3.5 hours approx wait time, East Gopuram Gate

Athivaradhar News Updates for August 13th

  • VIP visits planned for today –
    • Chief Minister of Telangana Mr. K Chandrasekhar Rao along with his wife Shobha & daughter Kavitha offered prayers at Athi Varadar temple in Kanchi today.
    • Day 43 of Athi Varadar darshan today – The Lord looked magnanimous in yellow silk robes, bordered with a shining green ‘pattu’ border.
  • There will be no darshan of Athi Varadar at Sri Devarajaswami temple on 17th August.
  • On 17th Aug 2019, the idol will be sent back to its vault inside the Ananthasaras tank.
  • The temple doors will now close at 2 AM instead of 11 PM.
  • No VIP and VVIP Darshan on 16th & 17th August 2019.
  • Collector P. Ponniah hinted that devotees should be prepared to wait for upto 2 days for the darshan.
  • For the VIPs and devotees with donor pass, a new ramp would be provided at the exit point at West gopuram.
  • Idol would be placed in the Ananthasaras tank on 17 August 2019.

  1. We had A VIP Donor pass for day before on Sunday but it was terrible (waiting time was high and approach was clogged), will it be like that today or tomorrow? When is the best time of the day to see it with least crowd?

  2. We have a VIP donor pass and planning to visit tomorrow early morning. Group has both old aged and infants.. Could you please suggest whether it is good to visit early morning

  3. Is there any special queue for parents with kids below 5yrs?
    What is the present darshan timings??
    Also is there any specific time to enter the temple within the designated darshan timings?
    Pls help as we are planning to visit tomorrow?

    • @Sampangi no they are with Donor pass queue only, the queue starts in a street filled with people.. It will take minimum 3 to 4 hours.

  4. Can I visit temple after 10 PM today? Can you please let me know what will darshan timings today? I am planning to visit today. It would be helpful i you provide me the details

  5. Today 6 pm we have booked 300 tickets for my parents, old aged people, we can go there by 5 pm near West Gopuram Gate right. Is there any change in dharshan timings for 300 Rs tickets. Pls advise.

  6. We went on Aug 13th, since we had pass we were told to join the queue near West Rajagopuram entrance. We started the queue at 7am and had dharshan at 2.30pm. Terrible experience, not advisable for elder people and infants. There are two queue near West Rajagopuram for pass holders. One is VVIP (green color pass) queue and all others (VIP/DONOR/300/500) are in one queue.
    If you still need to go there, follow this and prepare to wait for long time.
    1. Have plenty of biscuits, fruits with you.
    2. Take water bottles as much as you can.
    3. Have breakfast/lunch and dont come in empty stomach
    4. Try to reach below point directly somehow and dont listen to Police

    • The above is only for pass holders and 300/500 ticket holders. Evening (after 5pm) the crowd is less compared morning I guess because when I came out there are not much people in the line.

    I am Kumaramuruggan working in LAKSHMI AMMAL POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE KOVILPATTI went to Kanchipuram for ATHIVARADHAR Darson on 11.08.19 SUNDAY after Worshiping KAMATCHIAMMAN and KUMARAKOTTAM MURUGAN .I joined the Donor Pass Que @ 2.45 p.m and by the time we had the Darshan of Athi Varadhan Perumal it was 4.15 p.m ..It took One and half hours for me for dharshan .While in the QUE I was Chanting HARE KRISHNA MANTRA .
